3 Reasons to Kill Project

August 26, 2010

Not every project should be completed.  Here are 3 reasons to kill a project:

  1. When the project no longer aligns with the business strategy
  2. When the balance between the project constraints (scope, schedule, budget) can no longer be aligned with reasonable expectations
  3. When the risks exceed the expected benefits

Not enough reasons, here a few more:

  • Loss or withdrawal of executive or sponsor support
  • Loss of funding

Are there more reasons to kill a project?
